Chapter by chapter list Importance of race in the play Cultural treatment of outsiders The social setting of Othello Works Cited The play of Othello has been one firmly bound up with the subject of race and prejudice. It is the fundamental issue of racial partiality in Venetian culture that impacts Iago’s plot against Othello, a bias both Othello and Desdemona are a lot of mindful of its reality. Desdemona denies preference in her own life. Her center is just her adoration, of which she is faithful in safeguarding. Be that as it may, Othello doesn't know about how profound the issue of Elizabethan partiality has vanquished his own character. Such contemplations keep Othello from talking about the issue with Desdemona, so he acts with the terrified suspicions affected by Iago’s lies and indications. Enduring the Elizabethan’s partiality expects Othello to be close to consummate in quality and information. For example, Iago expressly alludes to Othello with a foul preference by attesting that â€Å"These Moors are alterable in their wills†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Shakespeare 30). We can't overlook this attestation Iago makes about Othello. This revolting bias against Othello is the thing that perusers can support as reality with regards to racial preference during Elizabethan period (Graham 23). Different pundits think about Othello as probably the best accomplishment of Shakespeare, yet additionally as one of the most outrageous plays making distress the two perusers and watchers. A few pundits contend that Shakespeare committed an error by making a â€Å"Moor† his focal character on the grounds that solitary white characters could be disastrous saints. Others contend that Shakespeare was just communicating the estimations of Elizabethans with respect to race issue, which he thought was a hostile depiction of dark individuals during his occasions. Simultaneously, different pundits accept that Shakespeare was intentionally uncovering the issue of racial bias of his individual comrades by speaking to a dark grievous saint. Shakespeare’s characters are among the bigot in Elizabethan period. They often utilize the word â€Å"black† to allude to Othello. For example, Iago looks at Othello to â€Å"an old dark ram† (Shakespeare 5). This depicts the view of Elizabethans toward dark race. Elizabethans consider dark to be as creatures that don't have human thoughtfulness, yet bestial senses. Brabanzio biases against dark race because of their skin shading. Subs equently, he can't believe his own daughter’s relationship with Othello since it conflicts with his conclusion concerning outside race. Brabanzio reasserts his preference judgment by utilizing the word â€Å"fear† to mirror his thought regarding blacks for example blacks are savage and unseemly people. Brabanzio goes further to substitute Othello’s pride by alluding to him as a â€Å"thing†. Publicizing Looking for inquire about paper on english writing? We should check whether we can support you! When Desdemona affirms that she saw Othello in her psyche, it implies that she should defend and approve her adoration to Othello in her brain and not her heart. Iago reveals to Othello that Desdemona as his better half is so unnatural to the point that she denied â€Å"many p roposed matches †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ Of her own clime, appearance, and degree† (Shakespeare 70). prior utilizations these depictions on Othello to conjure a feeling of dread, insidiousness, brutality and racial mediocrity of the blacks. The way of life of the whites depicts dark race as declined and ignoble. Othello must act inside the restrictions of a supremacist society to manage the supposed treachery of Desdemona (Adelman 45). The Elizabethan definitions and personality of the â€Å"Moor† fluctuated. They utilized the term to allude to blacks or somebody outside their race. Along these lines, some other race outside the white’s society was inconsequential. Iago revoltingly alludes to Othello as a â€Å"Barbary horse†. Elizabethans utilized the term â€Å"black† regarding â€Å"Moor†, dark or some other individual with Arabic inceptions. Iago alludes to Othello with derogative terms due to his skin pigmentation and his developing affection and want for a white lady. We can reason that racial preference pivots around racial sexual association of Othello and Desdemona. Characters think about Othello as good and excellent individual. Be that as it may, Iago blends sexual and race issues in order to discover methods of assaulting Othello from all sides. In this manner, Elizabethans use black’s physical highlights to characterize Othello’s personality. Significance of race in the play Racial preference denotes the watershed in this play. The noteworthiness of Othello’s race and pigmentation endeavor to uncover racial preference in the Elizabethan period. This powers the crowd not to consider Othello to be a generalized Moor, however as an unfortunate saint. The deplorable occasion sustained by Iago change Othello into what Iago needs him to be. This makes the play makes some uneasiness among white crowd. Shakespeare joins race, partiality and sex issues so as to make a snare of disasters. The play uncovere d the whites’ dread of miscegenation and blending of races through Othello. Shakespeare is utilizing the Moor to challenge the philosophies of race, sex and miscegenation in the Elizabethan time frame. The play mixes the crowd compassion through portrayal of the adoration for a white lady for a dark man (Hadfield 30). Social treatment of outsiders The depictions different characters use concerning Othello lead the crowd to accept that Elizabethan individuals treated outsiders with a distinction. Different charact ers utilize various socially generalized names to allude to Othello. For example, Emilia alludes to Othello as the â€Å"Moor† by saying â€Å"The Moor’s abus’d by some incredible knave†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ And made you to presume me with the Moor† (Shakespeare 30). Such references cause the perusers to imagine the story as one loaded up with generalized treatment of the Negros during Shakespeare’s period. The supremacist depictions pervade the play all through as clear in Roderigo and Iago. Be that as it may, as Shakespeare builds up his character, Othello, we understand that a few characters around him treat him as an equivalent. Othello has a rich history of lineage. We should consider Othello to be a Negro, however as a high and polite Moorish boss. As it were, Shakespeare checks the Moorish references by building up the characteristics of Othello with the goal that perusers may overlook his skin shading. Afterward, Shakespeare presents Othello as an edified, ace of language, regarded or more all, fit for energy past race. As the play closes, we understand that it isn't about race, yet an account of a shocking character who submits a heartbreaking demonstration of homicide. It is basic to take note of that the play begins in murkiness. Abnormally, the characters don't utilize Othello’s name concerning him. Perusers can just think about who could be â€Å"the dark ram† through the terms different characters use regarding Othello. The reference to the terms Moor, thick lips and a Barbary horse compare Othello to a creature. Roderigo sees the joining among Othello and Desdemona as a demonstration which will just outcomes into a making of a â€Å"beast with two backs† (Shakespeare, 29). We realize that ponies have wide lips, and by saying that the grandson will be a half-horse in view of the â€Å"animal blood† in Othello is an outrageous demonstration of sex and racial partiality social treatment of outs iders. Perusers just have traces of Othello through references to creatures Roderigo and Iago make. We can reach a determination between the Moor and creatures. The Elizabethans related the dull and savage to dark people’s enchantment. Since Othello is a â€Å"Moor†, Brabanzio mourns, and considers how Desdemona could have begun to look all starry eyed at him â€Å"against all standards of nature† (Shakespeare 31). Teens and Service Trips

Contributed by Diana H. Rodgers, Fit Education Consulting LLC Service or mission trips have become a rite of passage for many high school students. However, short-term voluntourism (a form of tourism in which travelers participate in voluntary work, typically for a charity) experiences have begun to raise red flags among many people, including many college admissions officers. There is growing consensus that going on service trips does little or nothing to help a student’s chances of admission. In some cases it can even hurt if the student is not able to clearly reflect on his or her experience in terms of its impact on oneself and others. Criticism of voluntourism and mission trips is not unique to the college application process. Ron Lieber, a New York Times financial columnist, has covered both the up and down-sides of service trips in the paper and in his book, The Opposite of Spoiled (a worthwhile read for every parent). Additionally, many religious leaders are using their blogs and websites to encourage a different approach to youth service. Essentially, the pattern of students going to an exotic, often warm and beautiful, locale to perform labor that they are not fully equipped to do offers little actual service to the community and can even potentially hurt the economic and social development of the people they are supposed to be serving. This is further complicated when done in the context of a post-colonial country or an area of the United States that has a history of deep poverty. That is, we never want students to be cast in the role of the white or wealthy savior who is only there to witness the reality of disadvantage. For example, I recently worked with a student who wanted to write his college admissions essay on his service trip to Puerto Rico during which he and his friends â€Å"volunteered in an orphanage and painted some walls.† The reality is that this student has never so much as made his own bed or served as a camp counselor, so what specific skills was he bringing to this experience? Further, the rotating cast of American high school students does little to increase the feeling of stability and emotional well-being of the children with whom he interacted. Yet, my student felt an incredible sense of pride in and fondness for his service trip experience. His planned takeaway for his personal statement fell into the â€Å"I went to help other people, but they really changed me† genre. And therein lies the rub. Service shouldn’t be about the fact that you had a great experience. It should be about making significant improvements in the lives of the people you are serving . Most American teenagers, through no fault of their own, do not have the requisite skills to make a positive impact on a short-term mission trip. The other problem with mission and service trips is the price. Many private businesses operate expensive service trips with the promise that they will help students enhance their college applications, when in reality the only people who are being helped are the for-profit organizers. If you’re a parent of a high school student, you probably regularly receive emails and mailings advertising these programs, some of which cost several thousand dollars. Going on a 10-day service trip to volunteer at a school in India does not show that the student has a deep passion for Hindu culture or international development. It shows that the student’s parents had $5000 to spend on a service trip. So, as you and your student are organizing your summer plans, reconsider the service trip, even if it is part of the culture of your student’s high school. Instead, think about ways your student can complete sustained and meaningful service in your community. Colleges would much rather see a Montgomery County teen spend every Sunday for three years at a soup kitchen in Norristown than see him jet off to Haiti, South Africa, or even Appalachia to bring non-existent skills to a culture about which he knows nothing. Moreover, by doing sustained and regular service, students have the opportunity to gain the skills to be assets to organizations over time. In this way, although students will be changed through the service, it is much more likely that they will actually be making a worthwhile impact on those they are serving. Ultimately, when students are planning to serve, parents should have a thorough conversation with them about the ways they can leverage their existing skills to improve their immediate community. How to Begin an Adoption Search The first objective of an adoption search is to discover the names of the birth parents who gave you up for adoption, or the identity of the child you relinquished. What do you already know? Just like a genealogy search, an adoption search begins with yourself. Write down everything you know about your birth and adoption, from the name of the hospital in which you were born to the agency which handled your adoption.Approach your adoptive parents. The best place to turn next is your adoptive parents. They are the ones most likely to hold possible clues. Write down every bit of information they can provide, no matter how insignificant it may seem. If you feel comfortable, then you can also approach other relatives and family friends with your questions.Collect your information in one place. Gather together all available documents. Ask your adoptive parents or contact the appropriate government official for documents such as an amended birth certificate, petition for adoption, and the final decree of adoption.Medical historyHealth statusCause of and age at deathHeight, weight, eye, hair colorEthnic originsLevel of educationProfessional achievementR eligionAsk for your non-identifying information. Contact the Agency or the State that handled your adoption for your non-identifying information. This non-identifying information will be released to the adoptee, adoptive parents, or birth parents, and may include clues to help you in your adoption search. The amount of information varies depending upon the details that were recorded at the time of the birth and adoption. Each agency, governed by state law and agency policy, releases what is considered appropriate and non-identifying, and may include details on the adoptee, adoptive parents, and birth parents such as: on some occasions, this non-identifying information may also include the parents ages at time of birth, the age and sex of other children, hobbies, general geographical location, and even the reasons for the adoption.Sign up for adoption registries. Register in State and National Reunion Registries, also known as Mutual Consent Registries, which are maintained by the go vernment or private individuals. These registries work by allowing each member of the adoption triad to register, hoping to be matched with someone else who might be searching for them. One of the best is the International Soundex Reunion Registry (ISRR). Keep your contact information updated and re-search registries on a regular basis.Join an adoption support group or mailing list. Beyond supplying much needed emotional support, adoption support groups can also provide you with information concerning current laws, new search techniques, and up-to-date information. Adoption search angels may also be available to assist with your adoption search.Hire a confidential intermediary. If youre very serious about your adoption search and have the financial resources (there is usually a substantial fee involved), consider petitioning for the services of a Confidential Intermediary (CI). Many states and provinces have instituted intermediary or search and consent systems to allow adoptees and birth parents the ability to contact each other through mutual consent. The CI is given access to the complete court and/or agency file and, using the information contained in it, attempts to locate the individuals. If and when contact is made by the intermediary, the person found is given the option of allowing or refusing contact by the party searching. The CI then reports the results to the court; if the contact has been refused that ends the matter. If the person located agrees to contact, the court will authorize the CI to give the name and current address of the person sought to the adoptee or birth parent. Check with the state in which your adoption occurred as to the availability of a Confidential Intermediary System. Once youve identified the name and other identifying information on your birth parent or adoptee, your adoption search can be conducted in much the same way as any other search for living people.

Literature Review on Sponsorship Essay example - 2715 Words

Literature review on Sponsorship Module title: Integrated Marketing Communication Kingston University, Faculty of Business and Law Academic Year 2012/2013 Introduction Sponsorship as a communication form can contribute significantly to a company by building brand awareness and heighten consumer attitudes (Cornwell et al., 2006). However, the effect of sponsorship is dependent on the public being aware of the sponsor-sponsee relationship. This review aims to determine how the perception of fit between the two influences the agreement, and factors potentially affecting this perception. The review starts with looking at overall perception, before continuing to discuss challenges related to the topic. Perception of fit within†¦show more content†¦Perception of ‘natural fit’ A ‘good fit’ or ‘natural fit’, is when the sponsor-sponsee linkage is obvious or clear to the public (Becker-Olson and Simmons, 2002) i.e. Adidas sponsoring the Olympics. Some benefits have already been stated, and researchers (Weeks et al. 2008, Cornwell et al. 2006, Keller 1993, Gwinner et al. 2009, Becker-Olson and Simmons 2002) agree that a natural sponsorship fit is preferable, with supported arguments ranging from more favourable marketing outcomes and higher sponsor identification (Weeks et al., 2008). In Chien and Cornwell’s (2011) opinion, brand image may even depend on a good fit, because it is directly tied to consumer associations, or as Keller (1993, P: 11) explains, â€Å"when the brand becomes linked with the event, some of the associations with the event may become indirectly associated with the brand†. A ‘natural fit’ also limits questioning around the sponsor’s motive and reasons for sponsoring an event (Be cker-Olson and Simmons, 2002). However, an exception given by Hamlin and Wilson (2004) is that the perception of ‘good fit’ often is too loosely defined, as the definition only relates to associations and general similarities in values between sponsor and sponsee, without any evidence to back-up these assumptions. Their research also found that motives behind a sponsorship could be questioned if the fit was believed to be ‘too good’, as the public might see the agreement asShow MoreRelatedIntroduction to Sports Sponsorship1103 Words   |  5 Pageshearts using sponsorships as another way to promote their brands (Heismith, 1994). I sat and thought to myself, gender roles are important, but they really shouldn’t be as prominent as they are. I believe children should be allowed to grow into their own person. Yes, teach the child the basics, the important parts of what it means to be a man or a woman. Little girls should know it is not lady like to sit with their legs open and little boys should know not to lay a hand on a lady. But if we get these children so caught up in their roles as a male or female they never have room to express themselves as fully as they probably would like. Take my childhood for example, my mother always tried to put me in pretty little dresses, curl my hair, and send me off to school. I wasn’t that little girl, I was what they called, a tomboy. I loved to sit and play in the dirt, I loved to run and jump, I loved to play kickball, I loved basically anything the guys got to do that I wasn’t allowed to do. I received numerous spankings throughout my childhood, but not one of them made me change what I was doing. Everyday I’d come home with either a dirty or ripped dress, sk id shoes, hair a mess, just looking like I hadn’t bathed in weeks. Eventually my mother sat me down and asked why I didn’t do as she said. I explained to her that I didn’t enjoy sitting at the table playing with Barbie

Henry Ford Was A Genius In Many Aspects Of Our Everyday Life. He Chang Essay Example For Students

Henry Ford Was A Genius In Many Aspects Of Our Everyday Life. He Chang Essay ed industry, production, and everybodys lifestyle. Many people know about him inventing some of the first automobiles, but what came out of it for America was a new encouragement for technology and an easier lifestyle for the average American. Also Henry Ford has changed the perspective of industries around the world. His invention of the assembly line and his five-dollar a day wage for the average worker brought about a total new change in factories. Fords style and ingenuity helped America to be more prosperous and created a large amount of opulence for America in the early 1900s, all because of one mans creativity and determination to achieve a dream that would help out the common man and the entire world. Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863, on a farm a few miles from Detroit. As a boy Henry was very creative and liked to work with tools. However, he hated doing chores and he always wanted to make things easier to do in life. This would be Henrys motto in life, always wanted to make things easier to do in life, at home or work. Ford was so creative that in 1893, he built his first engine and in 1896, he completed what he called the quadricycle, which ran for several years and sold it for $200. Ford had his second car finished in 1898 which was lighter and stronger than most cars around then. Soon enough many automobile companies were looking for somebody like Ford to help get their company going. However, Ford would go into automobile racing and then build his own car company. Fords years in automobile racing was his way to improve the car and a chance to test it under competition. Soon though, he would get out of racing by a tough minded and ambitious James Couzens, who developed plans for a car company. Couzens was able to start out the company with $28,000 in cash, and $21,000 in notes. The Ford Motor Company came out with the model A, the model B, and the model K in their beginning years. However, most of these cars were too expensive for the common man. So Ford decided that he would make a car that was affordable to the ordinary worker. For a few years, Ford and his technicians began building their next and most important car in history. In 1908, Ford brought out for the first time the Model T. It was an ugly car, seven feet high with false doors and a crank. Even though it was ugly and simple, it was modern and affordable. Actually, it was ahead of its time. The car could generate its own electricity for ignition and it had a planetary transmission which allowed women and children to drive it. It was easy to operate and had the most efficient gasoline gauge of its time. The greatest thing that came out from the Model T, was its influence in all of America. Since the Model T was the first affordable car, which reached a low of only $260 in 1925, it allowed the average American to own a car now. One thing the Model T helped in was the improvement of the roads. With more people out on the roads, many roads were now being paved, and highways and bridges were being built for cars. Also farmers saw the Model T effective, soon the rural population was brought into the mainstream of technology. It was such a popular car, that over fifteen million were sold all over the world. However, the most important thing the Model T did, was its impact on connecting the people of America. .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .postImageUrl , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:hover , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:visited , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:active { border:0!important; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:active , .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uebb88719d15c11b3b378f130e4c0ed6f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Rice And Genetic Engineering EssayBridges, roads, and highways were starting to be built for automobiles. Women were starting to leave the house now more because the Model T was easy to drive. Families could now go on trips and see America. Access to places was easier now, which led to the building of more stores, restaurants, and companies. This car was such a great impact, that the lifestyle we know today was created a lot by one automobile. The Model T, was the most affordable car of its time, but how Ford was able to make it so affordable was by his production ingenuity. The one greatest invention in industry is the assembly line. Henry Ford had a theory that if cars w ere manufactured all alike, they could be turned out in larger numbers at a lesser cost. That is why the Model T came only in black and they were all built the same way. Ford had the whole thing figured out. If they produced cars more inexpensively this would make them available to other people, which would lead to more cars bought. This would require better roads and create more customers which would lead to more cars bought and more reduced prices for cars. However, Ford had to figure out a way to produce cars more inexpensively and quickly. Ford decided to install the moving belt. This allowed more than one man to try to put together a part for the car. As the belt moved along one man would have a certain job to do for that part, then it would move on to the next person. For example, the magneto would take one man twenty minutes to assemble it, but with the moving belt the process took only five minutes. Their first attempt to assemble an entire car by the assembly line was done by putting the frame on skids and pulling it from one of the building by a rope. As the frame moved along a group of workers walked by installing parts into the frame. Soon the number of man hours was reduced from 15 1/2 to 1 /2 hours. This fascinating process in industry led to the affordability of the Model T and the process in almost every industry, to produce their products quicker and easier. Fords ingenuity in industry was greater than just his inventions , but also his business-type approach to the workers. Ford knew that in 1913, there was growing tension from the 13,000 employees at Detroit. Ford figured out a way to win their affection, he would buy it. On January 5, 1914, Ford announced his five-dollar a day wage for the workers, also he reduced the workday to eight hours. The average worker then in the U.S. made less than two-dollars a day. Many big industrialists thought he was dangerous and crazy. The publisher of the New York Times said Hes crazy, isnt he? Dont you think hes crazy? Ford argued that good pay makes good workers, and well paid workers could buy more cars. Soon millions of men poured into Detroit to try to get a job. Ford had the most effective way to keep his workers happy and still keep his company prosperous. He showed many industries how to run their company in a new style without losing any profits and the ability of increasing production also. Henry Ford was one of the most creative and determined people in the world. He had an attraction for the common people, to make their life easier and more simple. Ford did all this by the invention of the Model T. Even tough, this was not the first car, this was the first affordable car. Also, without the assembly line and the five-dollar a day wage, the affordability of the Model T would not be accomplished. Many of Fords great accomplishments had changed the whole entire lifestyle of America and made it into what we know today.

Many presidents (if not all) in the past, are solidly accused of creating and approving projects of which the budget is way more than the necessary expenses and way more than the outcome. Some are accused of accepting bribes from various groups of big syndicates that operate lottery illegally. Some of these presidents were greatly affected by all these accusations about their governance that they resort to forced resignation, but some were brave enough to stand by their government and stay seated in the throne despite all the allegations thrown against them. There were investigations and inspections done to know where all the money of the national budget had gone. And they discovered that there are a lot of questionable releases of budgets. President Aquino also shared their solution to all these arising questions like appointing a Truth commission, who will lead the investigations regarding all the questionable budget approval of the previous administration. Also, included in the State of the Nation Address are the different strategies that are considered by the government to answer the rising problem of unemployment in the country, the plans for the Philhealth, the National Land Use Bill, and many more. For me, this is a good way to start the 6-year governance of this administration. Corruption is now in the minds of the people as something that is tearing this country apart, as something that is bringing the people down and as something that is inevitable to any administration. But with the strong determination and the strong will that this government is showing the people against corruption, they are gaining the trust of the people and with trust comes the support, which is for me an important part in any government. The fight of the government against corruption is something that the people appreciates because they have witnessed how life is with a corrupt leader, and with this fight the people sees a new light, they see a hope that there really could be a bright future for all of us. I also would like to emphasize that this philosophy of the government if pursued well, could actually bring a big big change in the state of the country today, more funds to go to proper projects for the people. But the question still remains. Can they really eliminate corruption within the government? Of course I am not against the capacity of the government to execute all their plans against corruption, but the government is a big institution and the president cannot do it all by himself. He would need the support and participation of all the employees from the highest position in the palace to the smallest rank in all the branches of the government. This philosophy is great but we need to impose it properly so that all the plans will not go into waste and so that we will all benefit from it.

40 Actionable Email Marketing Tips That Will Boost Results

40 Actionable Email Marketing Tips That Will Boost Results Email marketing is complex. From list building to copywriting to measurement, there’s always something new to learn and improve. For marketers and business owners with limited time, it can be difficult to keep up with. This post covers 40 important email marketing tips, along with actionable advice to help you implement them right now. Even if you’re an experienced email marketer, you’re sure to pick up at least a few new tactics. 40 Actionable Email Marketing Tips That Will Boost Results via @ Table of Contents: 10 Email Subject Line Writing Tips 10 Email Copywriting Tips 10 General Email Marketing Tips 10 Email List Building Tips 10 Tips for Writing Better Email Subject Lines Success starts with strong subject lines. According to Hiten Shah, â€Å"33% of email recipients open email based on the subject line alone.† You may have heard some variation of that figure before (different reports suggest a range between 30% to upper 40%). The key takeaway here is that paying attention to subject lines matters, and a little extra effort up front can boost the results of your entire email. 1. Test Every Subject Line Before Delivery Wouldn’t it be great if it were possible to test every subject line before you hit send? With the Email Subject Line Tester, there is. This free tool (which is also built into ) makes it easy to optimize subject lines and see how they’ll look in recipient’s inboxes. Enter your subject line: Then, get your score (and more): You can use it free as much as you’d like here. 2. Use a Real Person’s Name in the Sender Field Getting an email from an actual person feels more friendly than one from a brand. So, use an employee’s name in the sender field, rather than your brand name. For bloggers or solo consultants, your name might double as your brand. But, larger retail and B2B brands can benefit from this strategy, too. This example from Threadless shows how both can be combined: Most email service providers make it easy to edit the sender field. Consider using the name of the individual sending the email, or the best point of contact should a recipient have questions. Sending marketing emails? Use a real employee's name in the sender field:3. Add Personalization People want to feel like they’re more than just a number. So, to further make your emails more personable, include the recipient's name. Here’s an example of a plain-text email from Michael Hyatt using personalization: Make email marketing more conversational with personalization4. Use Power Words Subject lines should inspire readers to take action. So, include power words that motivate audiences to open and click. Use this cheat sheet: Use power words to increase #email open rates5. Experiment With Numbers and Stats According to a study from YesWare, including a number (like an interesting stat or percentage) can influence a modest increase in clicks and replies: There are at least a couple reasons this might be the case: Numbers are concrete. Subject lines that make vague promises are less compelling than those that state specific claims or benefits. For example, â€Å"Save 25%† is more useful than â€Å"Save Money.† Sometimes, stats are hard to believe (even if they’re accurate). And you just have to click for confirmation. So, if you have stats or interesting percentages to share, consider including them. Experiment with numbers and stats in #email subject lines6. A/B Test Subject Lines No study nor external data point will ever be as meaningful as your own results. One of the best ways to get insight into what works for your audience specifically is to A/B test as much as possible. Subject lines are one obvious email element to split test, and most email service providers make this easy. Here are some shortcuts to help documentation to get you started: MailChimp Campaign Monitor Active Campaign Constant ContactAre you using A/B testing on your #email subject lines? If not, you might not be as successful as...7. Create a Curiosity Gap According to Wordstream, a curiosity gap  is: The curiosity gap is a theory and practice popularized by Upworthy and similar sites that leverages the reader’s curiosity to make them click through from an irresistible headline  to the actual content. By creating a curiosity gap, you're teasing your reader with a hint of what's to come, without giving all the answers away. How powerful can leveraging an informational gap be for copywriting? For Copyhackers, powerful enough to drive a 927% traffic increase to a pricing page. Imagine what it can do for your email marketing. To incorporate this technique into your subject line writing, do this: Identify the beginning and end of the story in your email. Leave out crucial information in the middle. Now, done poorly, this is an easy recipe for cheesy clickbait. But, it can also be a simple formula for carefully crafted copy that piques curiosity (and gets more clicks on your emails). Here are some examples of what this might look like in practice: â€Å"The easiest way to achieve your goal isn’t what you think.† â€Å"What’s the fastest way to achieve [GOAL]?† â€Å"Should you use this tactic to achieve [GOAL]†? All of these examples leave something out, that can only be learned by clicking through to read the email. Create curiosity gaps in your email subject lines to get more opens.8. Make Use of Available Preview Text Preview text appears in some email clients after the subject line. Usually, this space will be filled with copy from the email itself, if no preview text is specified. Leaving it blank is a missed opportunity, though, as it offers a chance to give your subject line more context. Here’s a great example from MarketingProfs: The subject line inspires urgency (â€Å"last call†), while the preview text offers more specifics (exactly how long the offer will remain, and how much can be saved). This example from Stone Temple Consulting follows a similar principle: Making use of preview text is simple: write your subject line, then add context. Here are some ideas: Tease an offer, then add more specifics. Include information about additional content in your email (that isn’t implied by the subject line itself). Ask a question in your subject line, and use the preview text to tease an answer. Get creative with it and see how it impacts opens and clicks. Writing email subject lines? Don't forget to leverage space in the preview text field.9. Never Use All-Caps Just don’t. It sounds like you're shouting in your reader's face. Avoid all-caps in email subject lines (and get 39 more email marketing tips here):10. Experiment With Emojis Emojis are more than just fun illustrations. They can actually help improve opens on emails. In fact, according to Kim Courvoisier (formerly from Campaign Monitor), â€Å"brands that are using emojis have seen a 56% increase in their unique open rates.† Impressive. Will you achieve similar results? There’s only one way to find out: experiment! To quickly grab emojis you can copy and paste into your own emails, visit GetEmoji.com: Could emojis help increase your email open rate? 10 Email Copywriting Tips Strong copywriting skills are essential for effective email marketing. Here are ten different ways to sharpen yours. Recommended Reading: The Email Copywriting Process You Need to Get More Conversions 11. Keep It Brief Whether you’re writing subject lines or body copy, make everything as long as it needs to be, and no more. Here are some basic guidelines to follow: Keep sentences under 25 words, and paragraphs under three sentences. These are considered basic best practices for web writing. Aim for 17-24 characters when writing subject lines. There’s no real â€Å"best subject line length,† but shorter copy is more likely to avoid getting cut off on mobile devices. Get to the point. Every word and sentence in your email should serve a clear purpose. If it doesn’t, then remove it. Here’s an example from Google. It’s extremely brief and concludes with a simple CTA: Keep your #email marketing copy brief.12. Include One CTA (But Don’t Be Afraid to Include It In Multiple Locations) Including a single call-to-action is a classic piece of email marketing advice. But, what about including that one CTA in multiple locations? This is a simple tip that can help increase clicks by placing a link at multiple spots where a reader is likely to be scanning across your copy: This email includes a CTA in each of the following places: Header graphic. Inline text. Conclusion CTA button. If one item doesn’t entice clicks, there’s a chance the next one might. Consider including one #email call-to-action in multiple places.13. Add a PS If You Need Extra Links Newsletters and roundups, by their nature, include multiple links to various pieces of interesting content. But, if you’re writing a plain text email, it’s best to direct readers toward one location. For plain text emails though, if you have additional content to share, there is one place you can turn to: your PS section. "Check out this example from Sujan Patel, co-founder at Voila Norbert, which lists information about his upcoming speaking appearances: Some other things you could consider including might be: Related articles or blog posts. Upcoming events. Recent company news announcements. This is an easy way to get extra eyeballs on stuff you want to promote, without distracting from your core call-to-action. Get more email traffic by including additional links in a PS after your signature.14. Offer Something Valuable Great copy won’t save a crappy offer. If what you’re selling isn’t worth your audience’s time, there’s nothing you can do to salvage success. Before sending an email, ask whether it passes the following criteria: â€Å"Is the content or offer this is promoting high-quality?†Ã‚  This is obviously somewhat subjective, but if you’re sending email simply because you feel like you have to, it may be better to hold off. â€Å"Would I even want what I’m selling?† Put yourself in your readers shoes. If you read this email from another brand, would you even remotely care? Be honest. â€Å"Is there anything that could make this email more valuable?† An additional PS, a related piece of content, or something else? Never send a marketing #email if you don't have anything valuable to offer.15. Always Put the Reader First No one wants to listen to a brand talk exclusively about itself. Brands that solve problems for people, though? Those are the ones that get heard. When writing email copy, put the reader’s interest first: Strong Example: â€Å"Cut your grass 35% faster with new, sharper mower blades.† Weak Example: â€Å"Our new mower blades are 35% sharper.† The first example establishes a clear benefit and helps the reader envision themselves spending less time mowing their lawn. The second example isn’t bad, but it puts the company first, and fails to make as strong a connection between product improvement and tangible consumer benefit. Put your reader first when writing #email #marketing copy.16. Sell Benefits, Not Features This is another classic piece of copywriting advice, and one that directly ties into the previous tip. Generally speaking, customers care more about benefits than features. A sharper mower blade isn’t important because it’s sharper; it’s better because it means the customer can spend less time mowing their lawn. Here’s an interesting example from MailChimp: Now, this could have been some superdry copy about GDPR. But, odds are, if GDPR means anything to you, you already know what’s up. So, it instead focuses on how MailChimp made creating GDPR-friendly forms easy enough to do in a few clicks. Perfect. Selling benefits, not features is #email #marketing #copywriting 101:17. Maintain Message Match Between Email + Landing Page Copy You’ve sent out an awesome email. Your unsuspecting reader clicks, compelled by your copy, only to find the landing page doesn’t exactly sound like the email. Maybe the offer is different. Or, the theme of the copy isn’t quite aligned. Whatever the case may be, strive to maintain a consistent experience with your copy throughout the entire experience, from first click on a subject line, all the way through to a conversion on your landing page. Here’s a basic example of this done well, starting with a subject line from Adobe: Based on this text, one can assume the email will link to something with interesting photography from Tokyo. Once clicked, the headline on the body content makes it clear the reader is getting what they thought with this email: After clicking the button, the first thing you see is a blog header using the same banner image from the email: The body copy in the blog post also follows through on the story the reader expected based on the initial subject line: One consistent experience, from start to finish. That’s what marketers should always aim for. Make sure email copy matches the message on your destination landing page.18. Avoid Generic Templates There’s nothing wrong with using a template as a starting point. But, everyone has seen the same plain text email templates, repeatedly. So, if you’ve seen something similar sent before, it’s time to go back to the drawing board, and come up with something fresh. That’s all there is to this tip. Say no to generic templates. Writing outreach emails? Say no to generic templates.19. Develop a Distinctive Voice Everyone gets too much email in their inbox every day. To stand out, developing a distinctive brand voice is important. Create a brand voice chart similar to this one from Content Marketing Institute: Write more engaging #email copy by developing a distinctive #brand voice:20. Make Copy Skimmable Dense paragraphs of text typically perform poorly for email. So, keep sentences brief, and cut down paragraphs to a sentence or two (three at the max). Here’s an example from Siege Media that’s clear and easy to skim: Don't make readers work! Make your #email #marketing copy skimmable instead. 10 General Email Marketing Tips Here’s a roundup of basic (but often overlooked) tips that, while small, add up to delivering a better experience for your subscribers. Recommended Reading: The Best Email Calendar Template You Need to Manage Marketing Newsletters 21. Make it Simple to Unsubscribe Once you’ve got people on your list, you probably want to do everything you can to keep them there. So, why make it easy to unsubscribe? Because it creates a more positive experience. Someone might be interested in your brand, but just doesn’t want your emails anymore. If its tough to get off your list, that positive brand sentiment can quickly evaporate, to the extent they choose a competitor instead. This can be as simple as making the unsubscribe link clear and easy to find: In this example, the unsubscribe link is subtle and unobtrusive, yet easy to find for anyone looking for it. Making email unsubscribes easy creates a more positive experience with your brand.22. Don’t Pay For Lists There are lots of reasons you shouldn’t send emails to a paid list. Here are a handful: None of those people will understand why they’re getting email from a company that may or may not have ever heard about. A lot of those people are liable to unsubscribe and they won’t convert anyway. Worse, you could violate the CAN-SPAM Act. This could be extremely bad news for your business. Build your list fair and square, and avoid paying for lists. Avoid paying for #email #marketing lists:23. Use Mobile-Friendly Design Check out these mobile email stats from Campaign Monitor: Emails that don’t render properly on mobile devices may get deleted in under three seconds. At least 50% of email opens happen on mobile devices (an exact number is tough to pin down, but that’s a lot). Mobile users check email 3X more frequently than desktop users. 52% are less likely to buy from a company if their mobile experience is poor. What do all these numbers mean? In short, you need to provide subscribers with a strong mobile email experience. At a basic level, make sure you’re using responsive templates for designed emails (most modern email service providers should make this easy), and easily skimmable text for plain-text emails. If you’re working with a developer building HTML emails, explain the importance of optimizing for mobile devices (if they’re not already on board). Use the stats above to build your case. Are your marketing #emails mobile-friendly?24. Add Alt-Text to Images and Buttons Image alt-text  helps tell web browsers and email clients more about the contents of an image. It’s useful for two reasons: Helping the visually impaired understand what your images are. Providing context for images in case they can’t load. Here’s a brief tutorial on how to do this with Constant Contact (other email service providers work similarly): 25. Send Email at the Best Times for Most Opens and Clicks The best time to send email will differ depending on your audience. But, there’s been plenty of research done to give us some solid starting points. Follow these guidelines: Are you sending your #marketing #emails at the best times?26. Plan Your Email Schedule Around the Best Days to Send, Too Start with a schedule that looks like this: Here's how to pick the best days to send #marketing #email27. But, that doesn’t mean you should stick to doing things exactly the same way you always have, indefinitely. Smart marketers optimize their approach based on performance data over time. Email marketing should be no exception. Once a month, consider analyzing your email marketing sending frequency and note: Which times perform best? Which days perform best? Do open rates appear to drop off once a certain number of emails are sent? Are you getting a high number of complaints about excessive email (and do those complaints correlate with a drop in opens)? Gather this data using the in-app analytics in your email service provider. Then, adjust your schedule accordingly. Are you optimizing your #email sending frequency based on data and performance?29. Add Whitelisting Instructions to Your Emails Whitelisting  is a simple process email recipients can use to make sure messages from a certain sender go straight into their inbox (rather than a SPAM folder). According to Campaign Monitor: â€Å"Many email senders link to whitelist instructions from their email campaigns, to ensure that their campaigns are delivered straight to the inbox for as many recipients as possible. A common approach is to add a short message to your email content, like, â€Å"To keep receiving emails from us, please add us to your address book†. Create Unique Email List Segments The subscribers on your email list may have unique interests or different backgrounds. Sending the same messages to different groups of people might not always get similar results from each one. For example, if you run an auto parts ecommerce site, customers interested in Honda Civic accessories might not be interested in information about pickup trucks. How could a marketer in this situation keep both groups equally engaged? By segmenting their email list based on interests.
